World Record Hanson Buck at the All-Canada Show

World Record Hanson Buck on display

at the All-Canada Show

The All-Canada Show recently “jumped” at the opportunity to exhibit the world record ‘Hanson Buck’ whitetail deer, at their events.  Made possible through a partnership with Cabela’s, the world’s foremost outfitter, All-Canada Show president, Jennifer Young put it succinctly “Canada is home to the world record whitetail, so it makes perfect sense for our show – which features Canada’s best fishing and hunting – to host the exhibit.”

The Hanson Buck can be seen at the upcoming All-Canada Shows

With Cabela’s assistance and working with Milo Hanson of Biggar, Saskatchewan (who harvested the record buck) Canadian taxidermist, Hawkins Taxidermy, Winnipeg, Manitoba produced the life-size exhibit.

"It’s not often as a taxidermist that you get to work on a world record," said Damien Deegan, president of Hawkins Taxidermists Ltd., Winnipeg. "We used this opportunity to produce a spectacular exhibit."

Hanson’s name became famous back in 1993 when he shot the world record whitetail deer, which antlers boasts an incredible 27 ¼ inch inside spread, on his southern Saskatchewan farm. Reflecting on the events Hanson says “I had seen the huge buck several times while hunting the fall of 1993, but for various reasons was never presented a good shot. Later in the season we drove a wooded area where we thought he might be. I was posted outside the woods and saw the monster buck head into an open field with in range of my Model 88 Winchester 308 lever action rifle.  He was on a dead run, but I felt confident in my aim and pulled the trigger mortally wounding the animal.” Hanson continued saying “we knew he was a spectacular buck, but I never imagined he would be a world-record at the time I took the shot…my life hasn’t been the same ever since.”

The ‘Hanson Buck’ is recognized by the Boone and Crockett Club – who maintains the records of native North American big game and established an official measurement and scoring system for trophy big game – as the world-record whitetail deer.  The Boone and Crockett Club is a non-profit organization founded in 1887 by Theodore Roosevelt. His vision was to establish a coalition of dedicated conservationists and sportsmen who would provide the leadership needed to address the issues that affect hunting, wildlife and wild habitat.

The Hanson Buck’s official score by Boone and Crockett is 213 5/8 including key measurements; main beam 28 ½”, inside spread 27 ¼”, number of points; 8 right, 6 left and a 5” beam circumference.
